Realtors and homeowners object to current rule by APS to not pay for 1,000 feet of electric line extension for rural homes

Realtors and development interests are urging the Arizona Corporation Commission to repeal a policy that enables Arizona Public Service to charge for utility line extensions.

They said the policy harms homeowners in the pocketbook and hurts the economy as well. They seek to reinstate a free service for line extension for as much as 1,000 feet as long as it costs no more than $25,000.

Prescott City Council postpones decision on eminent domain for Williamson Valley Road widening.

Distaste for the use of eminent domain caused the Prescott City Council to take a step back this week from using legal means to acquire five pieces of right-of-way along Williamson Valley Road. For nearly an hour on Tuesday, council members considered starting eminent domain proceedings to take "immediate possession" of the remaining parcels necessary to start the $6 million Williamson Valley Road widening project.

California  couple refuse to boycott Arizona over new immigration law.

As residents of San Diego, Calif., my wife and I fully support Arizona's legislation regarding illegal aliens. We do not support our city government's stand on that issue. It appears that that action will have an effect on our tourism industry and maybe that is what is needed to wake up our politicians.

It will not influence our annual trip to Prescott Valley to enjoy the horse racing at Yavapai Downs. We have enjoyed this event for the past five years. We stay at local motels, eat at local eateries as well as restaurants in Prescott, shop at your local shops, and basically enjoy your city.

Big Chino Water Ranch budget nears public approval threshold

With $36 million already into the Big Chino Water Ranch, and another $2 million or so in the coming year's budget, the City of Prescott is nearing the $40 million mark that would require an election of the public.

And that has raised a question about whether the city should be spending any money at all on the water pipeline project that officials have estimated at a final cost of about $170 million.

In the wake of the voters' overwhelming approval in November 2009 of the Taxpayer Protection Initiative, the city is dealing with the requirement that any project with a value of $40 million or more must go to a vote of the public.

Prescott & Prescott Valley Farmers Market

The word "green" assumes more than one meaning for Matt Hyde and Sarah Wertz of Run Rabbit Farm in Paulden.

Hyde and Wertz, both former classmates at Prescott College, are "green" at farming by themselves, and when it comes to selling at farmers markets. They only grow vegetables, which are green (and other colors).

They marked their debut at the Prescott Farmers Market - now in its 14th year - May 15, and set up a booth at the return of the Prescott Valley Farmers Market Tuesday afternoon.

LV Ranch Estates Finishes Phase II Wells, Tapping Into Exceptionally Abundant Water Supply

The thought of living in the desert is enough to make some people thirsty, which is why long-term water supply is always a consideration when it comes to making an arid habitat a home. Fortunately, LV Ranch Estates perches above plenty of water - water that Garth Owens and his company, Drill-Tech, Inc., have brought to the surface.

"It doesn't matter where you drill out there, there's water everywhere - and a lot of it," says Owens, the owner of Prescott-based Drill-Tech, the company drilling the wells for each of the 120 ranch parcels in this 4,900-acre community.

Fly, be free: Bald eagle gets second chance in Prescott

Prescott has a new bald eagle in town, although it remains to be seen how long he'll stick around.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department decided to release a rehabilitated bald eagle at Watson Lake in Prescott Monday because the site has all the right ingredients - it's not far from where he was born, its water attracts plenty of prey, it offers good perching, it had an elevated spot for the release that's easy to reach, and it's not over 100 degrees like it is in Phoenix right now.
